Course Description

This course develops the ability of students to communicate in English and perform research in their Foundation Program and future studies. Students will increase their English skills in academic contexts and learn strategies to succeed in higher education. Themes will include business networks, virtual reality, digital business and research skills.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. CLO1 Use strategies to understand and respond to listening and reading texts in formal and informal academic genres.
  2. CLO2 Organise and present coherent ideas, arguments, opinions and reflections in speaking and writing.

During this course, you will:

  • participate in individual, pair, group and class activities, including assessed pair and group activities
  • engage in tasks that involve problem-solving and team cooperation
  • develop language and academic skills that you will relate to other courses you are studying now or will study in the future 
  • engage in independent learning, online and in class
  • conduct research and present research findings in oral and written forms.
  • develop explicit study skills and reflective strategies that will help you to become a more effective learner
  • give oral presentations, speak in tutorial discussions, write essays, use academic referencing in writing and speaking
