Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

Course Description

This course is an elective for students who find their own opportunity to participate in a (usually) unpaid Work Integrated Learning Internship, based on a company’s premises. Out of pocket expenses paid by the employer are not considered ’payment’. Total work time is around 120 hours which is 1-2 days per week for 8-12 weeks. Assessment would be around 20 hours on top, making a total of around 140 hours.

How do I apply for an internship related to my course?

BUSM4608 operates using a flexible semester with 4 offerings throughout the year. This next available semester offering starts on 3/4/2017. This is the earliest date you are able to commence your internship.

You MUST have an unused/available elective in your degree program otherwise you will not be able to be enrolled in BUSM4608 and complete your internship for credit. Unpaid Internships outside of an accredited University program may be in breach of the Fair Work Act. For further information please refer to the Fair Work Ombudsman website.

You cannot begin your placement until you have completed the process outlined below

So where do I find an internship?
Internships are often advertised on RMIT Careerhub weekly. It is a good idea to ensure you check Careerhub regularly for new opportunities. We also recommend you conduct your own search using websites such as SEEKEthical JobsCareerOne and using your own networks.

When can I enrol and commence?

The next available semester is this Offering called Flex17. It operates outside RMIT's normal Semester 1. It starts on 3/4/2017.

All these dates are fixed by the University and are not negotiable, so be sure to know these details when negotiating your commencement dates with your prospective host organisations.

After you secure an internship opportunity, you will need to complete an application to enrol into BUSM4608.
You then need to receive the confirmation from RMIT Connect which you will then ATTACH to the Application form.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive confirmation from the Business WIL team and your enrolment into BUSM4608 will be processed.

You MUST NOT commence your placement until BUSM4608 appears in your enrolment on MyRMIT. This administration process will take 2 weeks from the time you submit your Application using the above button. Please ensure you have allowed for this time in your application process and agreed start dtes.

If you still have questions regarding any aspect of the Internship application process, please do not hesitate to contact for more information.
