It is assumed that students taking this course will have background knowledge in their chosen discipline at Bachelor’s degree level.
This course is part of the research project undertaken by all Science Honours students. The project, selected from the appropriate discipline area, allows students to develop skills in investigating a problem using scientific methodology. The project will be supervised by an academic research staff member and may involve direct collaboration with external bodies such as industries or government agencies.
Please note that if you take this course for a bachelor honours program, your overall mark for the course will be one of the course marks used to calculate the weighted average mark (WAM) that will determine your award level. This applies to students who commence enrolment in a bachelor honours program from 1 January 2016 onwards. See the WAM information webpage for more information.

Overview of Learning Activities
This course introduces you to the process of running a specific research project. In a research environment you will plan your Honours project, including specifying the research questions, aims, methods and analyses to be undertaken during the project, and then report on its progress. You will also be expected to demonstrate some progress in starting your project work. The result for this course may be moderated by the School and Discipline honours coordinators after considering the results obtained for Science Honours Project Courses.
Your designated supervisor, assisted as necessary by other members of staff, will guide you on a weekly basis in the planning and execution of your project.
Overview of Learning Resources
You will have access to current literature through the Library and manuals etc. available in your research group. You will be expected to access the references on good scientific writing on the course website (accessible through MyRMIT Studies). You may contact Student Services for assistance with learning and information on a range of supports available to facilitate your academic program.
