Course Description

This course will build your understanding and awareness of the role of textiles and textile design within an ever changing global community.

Textile designers do not create in isolation – developments in art, craft, design, technology and culture inform a designer’s perspective and practice.

In this course you will examine the social, cultural and political role that textiles and textile practices have within our lives. You will explore important historical and contemporary precedents and trace these developments to contemporary practices that are interdisciplinary and culturally diverse. You will also examine the ethics of design originality, appropriation, interpretation and translation.
