Course Description

In this course you will apply design thinking principles and techniques to produce creative and innovative plans, options and solutions to address a contemporary business issue or opportunity, with a global application. This course offers you opportunities to examine broader business issues from multiple perspectives to inform innovative responses to complex problems.

This course provides you with the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on, and consolidate what you have learnt in your capability courses and through previous project experiences. This course is a WIL project, you will partner with an international organisation to solve a real-world problem. Industry partners are engaged in the project and provide feedback to students.

On successful completion of this course you should be able to:

  1. Apply design thinking principles and techniques to explore and critically review a contemporary business issue or opportunity.
  2. Apply research and critical thinking skills to inform strategic approaches, solutions and options.
  3. Respond to and reflect on feedback to develop strategies for improvement.
  4. Present creative and persuasive pitches, ideas and responses to complex issues.
  5. Reflect on the process of undertaking a global innovation project and how that will, or has, impacted the development of your capabilities as a critical and reflective learner.


Overview of Learning Activities

This course is delivered as a blend of face-to-face activities (such as: workshops, lectures and group or industry-based tasks) and online learning. Learning will be focused around the completion of a 12-week project, which will be supported through in-class and online activities. This may include: project development activities; guest speakers/expert commentators; prescribed readings; researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; producing artefacts; proposing solutions; seeking and providing peer feedback; and reflective praxis.
