Course Description

This unit aims to develop skills and knowledge required to analyse cyber security requirements of an industrial network.

The students understand the most common threats, attacks and vulnerabilities. Conduct end-to-end security assessments of IIoT systems, recommend and configure threat mitigation measures to minimize the risk in the IIoT solutions and networks.

On completion of this course you should be able to:

 

  1. Describe the confidentiality, availability, integrity and cyber-security requirements for industrial/plant network operations
  2. Configure Layer 2 switches to secure operations within an industrial network
  3. Configure network devices, servers, gateways, VPN and Firewalls to connect an industrial network to cloud and external devices
  4. Identify security vulnerabilities, types of cyber-attacks and associated risks in an Industrial network
  5. Deploy appropriate security measures to securely operate an industrial network
  6. Secure data transmission between industrial networks, cloud services and external devices

 

 

 


Overview of Learning Activities

The learning activities included in this course are:

 

  • attendance at lectures where syllabus material will be presented and explained, and the subject will be illustrated with demonstrations and examples;
  • completion of tutorial questions, laboratory exercises and control system projects designed to give further practice in the application of theory and procedures, and to give feedback on student progress and understanding;
  • completion of written and practical assignments consisting of control programming problems and process control techniques which requiring an integrated understanding of the subject matter; and

private study, working through the course as presented in classes and learning materials, and gaining practice at solving conceptual and numerical problems
