An Amazing Race with lots of superheroes

Three students dressed in costume

Could you take on Team Avengers?

Team Guacamole has won RMIT’s Amazing Race for the second year in a row, competing against quite a number of students dressed as superheroes.

RMIT’s Amazing Race is a free event run for students by RMIT Link Sport and Recreation. It takes place once every semester and involves a series of challenges through the heart of Melbourne City.

This semester’s race kicked off from RMIT’s Alumni Courtyard on Sunday 21 September and involved 22 teams of students.

Challenges included a bike-riding course in Southbank, wasabi pea eating in China Town, Lego construction in Federation Square, and a puzzle challenge in Flagstaff Gardens. Each team also had to complete pursuit and collection stages along the way.

While only some teams opted to wear costumes for the race, those who did favoured superhero characters.

The Incredible Hulk, Wonder Woman, Superman and Superwoman, Batman and Catwoman all put in appearances, with a team calling themselves The Jamps winning the best-dressed award.

Each team arrived at the race’s starting point with no idea as to what the day would involve. They each received a clue bag with a map of Melbourne enclosed.

Semester 1 Amazing Race winners Guacamole again took out the top spot in blistering speed. They were followed by Team Tetra in second place and The Avengers in third.

All competitors were treated to a free lunch at the end of the race. The Amazing Race will return in Semester 1 of 2015.
