Project overview

The RMIT A’Beckett Urban Square is a temporary urban landscaping project for the vacant site located at the corner of Stewart and A’Beckett Streets. The project will provide a solution for the entire vacant site of approximately 2,800m2 and provides three different activity zones which will include the following elements:

  • Neighbouring active multi-use court space – basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton and futsal courts;
  • Asphalt and coloured playing surfaces, capability to accommodate demountable beach volleyball court, tiered seating, basketball lay-ups and cyclone mesh fencing;
  • Urban landscaping – large planter tubs, apple crate planter boxes and synthetic turf covered plinth seating;
  • Passive student and staff relaxing spaces – timber deck, electric BBQ facilities, table tennis and sun-shading;
  • Security and lighting measures;
  • WiFi;
  • Bike parking;
  • Event space.

This project is currently under construction.

Project timeline

This project will be completed by June 2014.
