Tim Johnston began his career back in the early nineties as an in house engineer at one of Melbourne’s finest recording studios, Metropolis Audio. After gaining invaluable experience through contact with some of Australia’s finest bands and producers, he went on to form his own business, “Seed” recording studios in 1995, to further his career as both an engineer and producer. Interest in acts further afield lead to Tim working in the UK for four years, developing an ear and techniques for the “British Band” sound. Over the years Tim has worked with the likes of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, The Stereophonics, Even, The Waifs, Something for Kate, The Badloves, Radio Birdman, Beasts of Bourbon, Dallas Crane, Manic Suede, and the Spazzys to name a few. With a passion for capturing the warmth and vitality of live instrumentation, Tim has developed his style working with traditional analogue equipment, 2 inch tape, valve microphones/pre amps/compressors, and has incorporated this knowledge into his use of production techniques offered within the digital domains such as Pro Tools. Experience within a large variety of studios and a wide range of equipment brings a quality and depth that shines through in all Tim’s work from pop to rock to indie.
