How do you communicate your research to stakeholders? An Expert Panel Session

This panel session features experts discussing how to effectively communicate your research with industry, government, funding bodies, media, social media, and the wider community. Stay tuned to read about the panelists.

What are your options after the PhD? HDR Alumni Panel

  • What opportunities and challenges lie ahead of you after graduation?
  • Do you wish to get into academia, or industry, or perhaps something completely different?
  • How do you decide what steps to take in order to find your way into a new career?
  • How do you communicate your strengths and skills?

In this session, the PhD graduates from the College of Business will offer their views on opportunities available after graduation and talk about their own career choices. Information on the panelists will follow shortly.

Research in Vietnam – Achievements and Opportunities

Building on the initiative to improve research collaboration between the College of Business in Melbourne and the Centre of Commerce and Management in Vietnam, this session will provide an overview of research in Vietnam. It will also discuss potential collaborations and how the researchers at both campuses can benefit from them.

Promoting your research through the media

Presentation by Gosia Kaszubska, RMIT’s Senior Communication Advisor (Media)

  • What makes a good media release?
  • What do journalists love (and what do they hate)?
  • How to promote your research through the non-traditional media?
  • How do non – traditional media interact with traditional media outlets?
  • How can RMIT help you share your work with a broader audience?

This session will be useful for academics with little or no media experience who would like to gain greater confidence and skills in dealing with the media.

HDR Workshop: How to write an abstract for your thesis or conference paper?

Higher Degree by Research Candidates in the College of Business are invited to submit their abstract of about 250 words on their research topic. First 20 submissions will have the opportunity to workshop their abstract writing skills at this session. Robyn Barnacle will review them and provide useful tips on writing an abstract that catches the eye.

Abstracts should be submitted to by 16 September, 2013 with subject line ‘HDR Workshop’.

Competition events

3MT Presentation – Business Academic Staff and Business Academic Development Group (ADG) Competition

Can you present a concise overview of your research in three minutes? The 3 Minute presentation competition provides a robust environment to present current research projects being undertaken by academic staff in the College of Business. Call for abstracts – now open. Abstracts are invited from academic staff who wish to present a current research project. Abstracts must be no longer than 150 words, and submitted through online registration form by Monday, 26 August.

HDR Poster Presentation Competition – College of Business

HDR Candidates from the College of Business will present their research poster at the poster presentation competition. The presentation will be judged by a panel of judges based on the presentation style, poster’s design, clarity and, visual appeal.

School Research Day events

Each school in the College of Business will run a half-day/ full-day event centred on a specific theme. Schools will showcase their research strengths through staff presentations, panel discussions, and competitions.

This is an excellent opportunity for academics and higher degree by research candidates to get involved in the cross-disciplinary activities.
