CESAA Essay Competition

If you have submitted an essay and it’s been assessed as part of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, consider entering it into the 22 nd Contemporary European Studies Association of Australia (CESAA) essay competition.

The competition

Essays from any discipline dealing with contemporary (post-war) Europe and/or the European Union can be submitted for consideration in one of the following two categories:

  • Best essay by an undergraduate student (2000-3000 words)
  • Best essay by an honours or postgraduate student (2000-4000 words)

To be eligible, essays must have been assessed as part on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at an Australian tertiary institution during Semester 2, 2014 or Semester 1, 2015.


The winning and highly commended essays will be considered for publication in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of European Studies.

In addition, prizes will be awarded as gif vouchers to the value of:

  • Undergraduate: $250
  • Postgraduate: $350

Winners also will receive a year’s free membership of CESAA.
