Within two full time equivalent months of the candidate’s research commencement date the candidate and their Senior supervisor/s must complete an analysis of the specific requirements of the proposed research and any additional requirements for support the candidate might have. This is to be done by completion of the Needs Analysis form that is designed to capture critical issues for the candidature. It is the responsibility of the Senior supervisor/s to ensure that candidates are referred to support units at RMIT as appropriate. Please refer to the Higher degrees by research - Candidature instruction.
Once completed the form is placed on the electronic candidate file for future reference and should be referred to again at Confirmation of Candidature to ensure that identified needs have been addressed. This documentation must be placed on file should any later issues with the candidature be identified as relating to unmet needs. This needs analysis excludes any requirements for disability support, the assessment of which is carried out by the Disability Liaison Unit at RMIT.
The Needs Analysis form (DOCX 34KB 3p) should be updated and revised as necessary during candidature in response to changes in the research project or the personal circumstances of the candidate. Information about any change in needs should be provided to a Review Panel if the form has been updated since it was first completed.
