Industry Experience

Sustainability:

After completing a Scholarship Post Graduate Program at Swinburne University Lucy is committed to engaging students at all levels in learning about sustainability. She has created highly interactive and immersive learning programs that allow students to develop and apply their environmental and sustainability literacy in a diverse range of contexts. Lucy recognises the importance of implementing sustainable design strategies in fashion and textiles and the potential RMIT graduates have in providing leadership and becoming critical change agents.

Textile Design:

Printed textiles are Lucy’s area of expertise and she is dedicated to increasing her knowledge in this area, and related disciplines. From 2007–2014 she has travelled to Turkey, UK, France, Switzerland, Italy, Japan and India visiting artisans and industry to develop her global view of textile production and sustainability in both contemporary and historical contexts.

Learning and Teaching:

Lucy endeavours to deliver current and high quality learning and teaching programs at RMIT.

In 2010 she was a project member on an LTIF grant which focused on developing a best practice model for graded assessment and also contributes to the Teaching tomtom, a blog which reflects the commitment of professionals working in a tertiary education context.

Lucy has received two teaching awards during her time at RMIT in recognition of her contribution to high quality teaching and student engagement across the University:

2012 Outstanding TAFE teacher in the School of Fashion and Textiles

2013 Outstanding Training Initiative of the Year Award, The Salford Project Team

Promoting Textile Design:

Lucy actively promotes textile design through contributions to printed media and coordinating and curating graduate and alumni events, most recently “Material Culture” – An exhibition featured in the L’Oreal Fashion Festival, showcasing new work by the Alumni from RMIT Textile Design and Development Program, March 2012.

Last year she turned her attention to a project in Central Victoria and curated ‘Home Work’ an exhibition celebrating the colour, beauty and joy that can come from domestic textile work and collecting.
