Library account and renewals

Information about checking your borrowing record, automatic renewals and overdue loans.

Checking your borrowing record

RMIT students and staff

  • Go to My Account (you can access it at anytime from the top menu in LibrarySearch)
  • Login with your RMIT NDS details (do not use your Library barcode)

CAVAL and Special Borrowers

  • Go to My Account (you can access it at anytime from the top menu in LibrarySearch)
  • Login using Barcode/ID and FAMILY NAME (in caps)

Blocks on a borrower's record

If at any time your library record has a block, it may be because you have overdue items, or the total of your outstanding library fines is above $25 for students, and $50 for staff. Further information on overdue fines is available.

Automatic renewals

We will automatically renew your loans 3 days before the due date, unless

  • You have an overdue item with a hold placed on it (this will stop the automatic renewal of all your loans)
  • You have reached your maximum borrowing time:
    • RMIT students and staff: 12 months
    • CAVAL borrowers: 3 months
  • Or your accrued fine is more than $25.00 for students, or $50.00 for staff.
  • Document Delivery loans from other institutions are NOT auto-renewed. Contact to see if a renewal is possible.

We will email you if there are holds placed on any of the items, or if you've reached your maximum borrowing time. Please return these items by the due date in the notice.

Overdue loans

Overdue items accrue a charge of 50 cents per day. This charge is calculated and applied to your record when the overdue items are returned or renewed.

You will no longer be able to renew if you accrue a fine equal to or greater than $25.00 for students, and equal to or greater than $50.00 for staff.
