Course Description

The purpose of this module is to provide the student with the skills, ability and knowledge while working in the building and construction industry to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
It should be noted that although ‘Workplace safety’ is presented as a stand-alone module safe working habits are implicit in all modules and activities that are undertaken.

Learning Outcomes

1. Use appropriate terminology related to workplace safety.
2. Minimise the OH&S hazards associated with the trade sector.
3. Apply working principles that ensure responsibility for the safety of self and others.
4. Select appropriate materials to work in the selected trade sector of the building and construction industry.
5. Identify the action that should be taken in an emergency situation.
6. Identify the action that should be taken as the result of an accident.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including written/oral activities and demonstration of practical skills to the relevant industry standards.
Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment activities to their teacher/assessor.  Feedback will be provided throughout the course.
