Course Description

This unit applies to all contexts for indoor and outdoor installation within a customer premises and applies to both customer premises cabling and customer premises equipment. This unit applies to all communications applications whether digital or analogue including telephony, data, video including digital broadcasting, computer networks including LANs and WANs, and multi media. This unit may be applied to domestic, commercial or industrial installations. Assessment by a TITAB registered assessor is recommended. The six unit competency set ICTTC005D, ICTTC006D, ICTTC008D, ICTTC012D, ICTTC017D and ICTTC022D that meets the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s (ACMA) requirements for Cabling Provider Registration (CPR), is generally used as part of a more specialised customer cabling qualification. This set is usually regarded as more suitable for new entrants where limited industry experience has been obtained and forms the major part of specialised qualifications such as ICT20308 Certificate II in Telecommunications Cabling. When these six units are delivered as a set within state/territory funding approved programs, the two benchmark CPR units (ICTTC136C and ICTTC137C) are not required.

1. Estimate requirements for alteration

Performance Criteria:

1.1-Identify availability and access to existing cable system
1.2-Establish building construction type and current/proposed uses
1.3-Identify existing and proposed cable systems
1.4-Identify existing and potential site hazards and obstacles
1.5-Advise customer of services that may be disrupted where appropriate


2. Document specifications and plans for alteration

Performance Criteria:

2.1-Show systems alterations are clearly and accurately on amendment plans and enable suitable comparisons with existing system
2.2-Specification documents are in accordance with industry standards
2.3-Specify equipment and materials to meet required industry standards and ensure compatibility with existing system


3. Alter cable system

Performance Criteria:

3.1-Identify existing site conditions and confirm with client where appropriate
3.2-Alterations cause minimal disruption to ongoing client activity
3.3-Alterations are carried out in a safe manner and in accordance with industry standards


4. Restore and test cable system

Performance Criteria:

4.1-Confirm compatibility of alterations with existing systems
4.2-Test new work in isolation and when integrated with existing systems
4.3-All alterations operate to client system specifications and in accordance with relevant industry standards


5. Update plans and records

Performance Criteria:

5.1-Update plans and documents to show revised systems accurately and clearly
5.2-Create new plans and installation documentation where pre existing documentation is unavailable


6. Restore site to required condition

Performance Criteria:

6.1-Return equipment and furniture to original locations after install to minimise disruption to client activity
6.2-Remove installation waste and debris from work site and dispose of in accordance with environmental requirements to maintain safe worksite conditions
6.3-Make visual check of conditions and sign off with customer to record satisfaction with conditions


7. Clean and store equipment

Performance Criteria:

7.1-Clean and adjust all tools and equipment and store in an accessible location
7.2-Remove installation waste and debris from work site and dispose of in accordance with environmental requirements to maintain safe worksite conditions


8. Manage Remote Power Feed

Performance Criteria:

8.1-Identify the risks posed by contact with Remote Power Feeding services
8.2-Identify Remote Power Feeding services in a range of commonly encountered circumstances inside customer premises
