Special Consideration must be lodged prior to or within 48 hours of the scheduled assessment time or assessment submission date.

To undertake practical clinical evaluation and or assessment students MUST present for the assessment process as follows:

Please note these are also OH&S requirements for clinical safety.

1. Written Assessment (multiple choice) block 2, day 2 See Assessment matrix below for further details

2. Workplace Assessment (on the job observation by RMIT Assessor of student in their workplace demonstrating application and underpinning knowledge in infection control policies and procedures in health work as per the 7 Elements/Learning Outcomes for Unit HLTIN301A). This assessment must be undertaken post block 4 attendance but prior to student RMIT end enrolment date. See Assessment matrix below for further details

An NYC "Not Yet Competent" result at the workplace assessment will be managed directly by the Program Coordinator.

The student will be provided an "Action Plan" that has been individually customised to the student’s learning outcomes. This may include but is not limited to the provision of supporting written evidence by the student following further research, third party evidence obtained from the student’s employer and, or re-enrolment in Unit HLTIN301A incurring fees.

Assessment Matrix

Assessment Matrix

Special Consideration must be lodged prior to or within 48 hours of the scheduled assessment time or assessment submission date.

The application for Special Consideration is NOT granted automatically on application.

A student may be required to seek further clinical experience outside their place of employment in order to achieve the required Learning Outcomes for Unit HLTIN301A, ie. in dental practice that does not use barriers but employs a wiping technique the student may require external experience to gain skills and knowledge in this learning outcome as per the Performance Criteria.

Prerequisite for participation in clinical evaluation/feedback session and written assessment block 2, day 2 as follows:

Attendance to block 1, day 1 and day 2 classes and practical clinical sessions (as per individual student RMIT Certificate III Dental Assisting Training Plan).

Submission (as per information for submission of assessment tasks in Student Handbook) of fully completed HLTIN301A Learning Guide and Third Party Evidence document signed by both student & workplace supervisor 2 weeks prior to attendance to block 2, day . The purpose of this Learning Guide and Third Party Evidence Document is to provide evidence of work based learning and consolidation of underpinning skills and knowledge in infection control. The Learning Guide must be submitted with a signed Unit HLTIN301A cover sheet and include a bibliography as outlined in the Student Handbook.

Prerequisite for workplace assessment in Unit HLTIN301A post block 4 but prior to end of RMIT enrolment date as follows:

Attendance to all HLTIN301A block 1, day 1 & day 2, classes and block 2, day 2 classes (as per individual student RMIT Certificate III Dental Assisting Training Plan).

Completion of practical clinical evaluation/feedback session block 2, day 2

PX result (above 70% for written assessment block 2, day 2) In the event of the student achieving a NYC "Not Yet Competent’ result, the student will be permitted 2 weeks from the date of the written assessment in which to undertake further research and clinical experience as directed by the RMIT Assessor. The student is then required to schedule an appointment with the Program Coordinator or the Lead Teacher for the Unit (details in Student Handbook)to undertake an oral make-up assessment. The oral make-up assessment is a predetermined assessment that is implemented for all NYC resulted students in Unit HLTIN301A to support consistency in assessment.

A subsequent NYC result for written assessment may require the student to attend further class work within their enrolment period or may result in the student re-enrolling in Unit HLTIN301A incurring fees.

Submission of Third Party Evidence of work based training via sign off by student and workplace supervisor in Unit HLTIN301A as per the listed 7 Elements/Learning Outcomes for Unit HLTIN301A in the student’s individual Workplace Training Record Book

CA-Competency Achieved in Unit HLTIN301A - when all of the above listed criteria are met and on successful completion by the student of Unit HLTIN301A workplace assessment in the dental practice in which the student is employed. Student must be deemed competent in 90% of the workplace assessment in HLTIN301A .
