Course Description

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to locate and clear blockages to sanitary plumbing and drainage with the use of mechanically operated drain clearing machines and attachments, closed circuit television (CCTV) and manually operated drain cleaning tools and equipment where required.

In some jurisdictions, this unit of competency may form part of accreditation, licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including written/oral activities and demonstration of practical skills to the relevant industry standards. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment activities to their teacher/assessor. Feedback will be provided throughout the course.

Students must pass each of the following assessment tasks to demonstrate competent.

  • Complete the resource book work sheets (Pearson Sanitary & Drainage and Student Leaners Recourse Book)
  • Complete theory test/Underpinning questions (may be Verbal, print based or computer based) and submit for assessment.
  • Complete a SWMS document appropriate for the task, sign and submit for assessment.

Assessment Tasks

Students are required to complete 2 different types of assessment tasks
Assessment 1 – Submit workbook underpinning questions and completed SWMS. (Weighting 30%)
 

Assessment 2 – Practical tasks - Locate and clear blockages A29, A30, A31. (weighting 70%)


To successfully complete this unit, a student needs to be deemed competent (CA grade) in both assessment tasks.
