Course Description

This unit describes the communication and work practice skills and knowledge required to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the health industry context

Details of Learning Activities

This unit utilizes movies, second hand accounts and a cultural excursion in order to try to understand indigenous culture and practices.


Teaching Schedule

The unit is taught together with HLTIR403B Work effectively with culturally diverse colleagues and co-workers.   Teaching for both is delivered over 12 hours in the classroom and on excursion late in phase 2 of the program.

Assessment Tasks

This course is assessed together with HLTIR403B.  Assessment consists of a written assignment reflecting the central themes of this course.
Participation and engagement in class discussions and activities is required in order to achieve competency in this course.  The graded mark will be based on the written assignment handed in.
