Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to the implementation of planning and response procedures for emergencies. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

1. Monitor responses to emergencies for efficiency and timeliness, in consultation with stakeholders and, as appropriate, specialist advisors and agencies
2. Document, and promptly and appropriately report results of monitoring to managers and key personnel
3. Identify areas for organisational and personal improvement and make recommendations for improvement in response to analysis of response taken

Overview of Assessment

The participant must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, workplace activities, in class exercises, quizzes, practical problem solving exercises and presentations. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met


Assessment Tasks

A major assessment – Emergency Management Audit - 80% of total mark
Online participation – 20% of total mark

This assessment requires you to develop an audit tool that can be used to assess a workplace Emergency Management System, the audit needs to be compliant with AS 3745-2002 Emergency control organisation and procedures for buildings, structures and workplaces. This will require you to work closely with AS 3745-2002, legislation relevant to your industry and workplace standards to determine the types of questions that need to be asked and the types of evidence that will need to be viewed.

The purpose of this assignment is to develop a tool that can help you assess the level of compliance your workplace or your future workplaces have in the area of emergency management.

A detailed assessment sheet will be distributed in class.
