Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to effectively contribute to the application of a systematic approach to managing occupational health and safety (OHS) to ensure that the workplace is, as far as is practicable, safe and without risks to the health of employees and others. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

Teaching Schedule

Overview of Assessment

The participant must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, workplace activities, in class exercises, quizzes, practical problem solving exercises and presentations. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.


Assessment Tasks

A major work based assessment – A report outlining the occupational health and safety processes your workplace uses to identify, assess, control, monitor and review hazards. 70% of total mark

Class participation – 10% of total mark

Online participation 20% of total mark
