Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage a patient record system within a medical environment and to supervise others. It covers clarifying roles and responsibilities, managing the operation of a patient records system, and reviewing and improving the system.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

This unit applies to individuals managing an existing record keeping system (and sub systems within the overall system) in a medical context. It may involve supervising the work of other personnel who implement the system and maintain patient records day to day. It also involves working with users of the system such as the health practitioners in the facility.

The unit does not cover the design of a new system but does cover reviews and improvements to an existing system. BSBMED303B Maintain patient records, covers the day to day implementation of the system.

Details of Learning Activities

 Facilitator led BSBMED401B Manage patient record keeping system: via Power Point presentation and classroom discussion and small group activity.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will include demonstration of underpinning knowledge, and skills; assessment activities may include oral presentation, written work and third party report.
 


Assessment Tasks

 

The student completes workplace experience at the front desk of a dental practice and completes the workbook based on workplace experiences and self research.
Student is to complete written assessment and complete the Oral Presentation (via Power Point) and gain further information of dental administration issues during the oral presentations.

Please Note: Students may apply for, Special Consideration (as per information provided in the Student Handbook) via the RMIT Website http://www.rmit.edu.au/students/specialconsideration\ where they believe factors beyond their control have affected their academic performance. Special consideration must be lodged prior to or within 48 hours of the scheduled assessment time or assessment submission date. Special consideration is not granted automatically on application. Application for extension of time for submission of work (where the assessment tasks will be submitted within seven days).

  A NYC (Not Yet Competent) result for the written assesment and the oral presentation assessment is managed as follows: The marked coversheet will provide the student on what questions to resubmit. The student will have two weeks to submit the resubmission from the date of receiving the resubmission. The student will submit the original marked assessment (including original marked coversheet) and the resubmission answers that have been researched. The student with a resubmission is strongly advised to contact the principal teacher to clarify any aspects of the resubmission or arrange for a private tutorial.

Please note: Failure to undertake the above mentioned to achieve a CA result for the assessments will result in a student being deemed NYC and requiring result in re-enrolment incurring additional fees and a meeting with the Program Coordinator.
