Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to support clients who require assistance with basic physical movement which may be due to incapacity.

Carry out client movement using appropriate safe handling method and equipment as required

Take appropriate action to ensure client comfort and safety throughout positioning or transfer

Communicate with clients during movement according to appropriate protocols

Complete assistance with client movement

Performance Criteria:

Return equipment to appropriate place as required

Clean equipment in accordance with organisation policy and procedures

Report equipment faults immediately in accordance with organisation procedures

Prepare to assist with client movement

Performance Criteria:

Confirm requirements for assisting with client movement with relevant personnel and care plan or organisation policy and procedures

Select equipment according to client requirements

Appropriately prepare environment

Explain the procedure to client and answer questions as required and according to appropriate communication protocols

Seek client consent and cooperation

Carry out procedure according to safe working practices

Teaching Schedule

There will be four sessions of teaching for this course and the details of the class date and time will be in the timetable provided to the students.

The classes are on 3rd September and 10th September. The attendance for all sessions is compulsory.

The teaching sessions will involve both theory and practical training for the students.

Overview of Assessment

The assessment will involve practical assessment in simulated environment and an assignment to demonstrate appropriate application of knowledge.


Assessment Tasks

The students will be assessed for their underpinning knowledge through workbook activities and then they will be assessed for their client movement skills through practical work.The students are required to attend all scheduled classes for this course.

The students also need to gain competency in all outcomes to be deemed competent for this course.
