Course Description

This unit of competency covers the ability to prepare, standardise and use solutions to monitor the quality of prepared solutions. This unit of competency is applicable to laboratory technicians working in all industries. Industry representatives have provided case studies to illustrate the practical application of this unit of competency and to show its relevance in a workplace setting. These are found at the end of this unit of competency under the section ’This competency in practice’.

Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

VCE Chemistry score of ≥ 20 or equivalent OR satisfactory participation in Introductory Chemistry during semester 1. (Satisfactory participation is considered to be 80% attendance of Introductory Chemistry classes & completion of ≥ 4 Quizzes).
