This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to resolve workplace problems through the application of quality systems

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Characteristics of a quality product/service are established.
1.2 Underpinning principles of quality management are identified.
1.3 Key areas of Total Quality Management (TQM) are identified.

2. Identify and source relevant quality system standards for the food industry.

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Relevant Australian and International quality system standards are identified.
2.2 Enterprise quality system documentation is located.

3. Identify and demonstrate quality improvement tools and techniques.

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Quality improvement techniques and tools, in quality management, are recognized.
3.2 Tools and techniques most commonly used in quality improvement are demonstrated and applied to workplace situations.

Performance Criteria:

4.1 Workplace non-conformances or problem are identified.
4.2 Data to determine possible causes for workplace non-conformance is collected.
4.3 Corrective action in relation to non-conformance is recommended to relevant personnel.
4.4 Recommendations are acted upon.
