Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and
knowledge required to design and manufacture
crowns, bridges, inlays,onlays and veneers.

All procedures are carried out in accordance with
occupational health and safety policies and procedures,
current infection control guidelines, Australian and New
Zealand Standards, state/territory legislative
requirements and organisation policy.

Performance Criteria:



1.1 Read and interpret prescription where required
1.2 Provide full details of the procedure to the client
and/or carer
1.3 Obtain and document consent following ethical
and legal requirements
1.4 Position the client correctly for the procedure
1.5 Consider the accuracy of natural and artificial light
1.6 View mouth to gain overview of procedure
1.7 Consult client regarding requirements and
aesthetic outcomes

2.1 Determine the technique and materials appropriate
for the procedure
2.2 Prepare and use equipment and materials in
accordance with the manufacturer instructions
2.3 Implement standard precautions to prevent the
spread of infection

3.1 Position and prepare the client for the procedure
3.2 Instruct client on participation during the
procedure
3.3 Select tooth shade
3.4 Consult client regarding findings and gain
acceptance
3.5 Document the tooth shade selected
3.6 Discuss any follow up procedures with the client


Learning Outcomes


On completion of this course the participants will be able to demonstrate, on a consistent basis, the process involved in taking tooth shades

Participation in group activities based on a simulated workplace exercises.
Practical exercises
Individual exercises carrying out requirements of competency.
Student experiences in workplace “on job training”


Teaching Schedule

• Delivered as follows:
Take tooth shades THEORY (in conjunction with Construct Ceramic Restorations): Session time; four hours (approx)
Full dentures THEORY REVIEW (in conjunction with Construct Ceramic Restorations): Session time; one hour (approx)

Overview of Assessment

This unit is to be assessed in a simulated workplace and under the normal range of work conditions.
Practical exercises, presentation of competency assessment exercises, theoretical tests are used
