Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide specialised remedial massage treatment for specific client groups and common conditions/disease states in accordance with the age, gender and mental health needs of the client
This unit requires a high level knowledge of remedial massage treatment

1.1       Using knowledge of remedial massage select the most appropriate treatment strategy

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course forms part of the Diploma of Remedial Massage.
Assessment is typically based around written and/or online tests, assignments, reflective journals, evidence portfolio’s, logbooks and/or practical demonstrations.
Assessment may also take place in a simulated work situation such as a supervised student clinic.
Competency based training requires the student to be in attendance in order for assessment to be undertaken.
Assessment is undertaken through successful completion of all assessment activities and classroom, project & industry participation.
Assessments are spaced across the duration of the course, in order for your teacher to provide you with progressive feedback.
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions, through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation.

Assessment Tasks

 

  • In order to be deemed satisfactory you will need to demonstrate how to take a client through a client history form and provide a specialised remedial massage treatment in a simulated situation for the following; children/adolescents, women, men, geriatrics and mental health clients.
  • Students will be given a case study at the end of each theory lesson where you will be required to perform a full patient history taking, postural assessment, map out a treatment plan discuss a treatment plan, gain informed consent, perform the treatment, re-assess the client and map out a future treatment plan or refer the client on.
  • Each student will be assessed during class whilst performing the above treatment protocol.
