Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design and produce plastic products through the exploration and
application of a range of advanced techniques. It is a specialisation unit and refers to a specific design form.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Learning Outcomes
The application of this unit in the workplace sees an individual product designer designing and producing a plastic product from a
brief. The nature of the plastic product may vary greatly but the outcome would be a completed plastic product. The designer would use a wide range of tools, equipment and materials and the concepts developed would convey strong conceptual and theoretical development. This work would usually be carried out independently although guidance would be available if required.
Overview of Assessment
A person who demonstrates competency in this unit will be able to realise the outcomes described in the Elements to the required level detailed in the Performance Criteria.
The ability to design and produce a plastic product from a brief to meet a specified need and which:
• demonstrates a command of selected advanced methodologies, techniques, tools and materials and their application to plastics and product design
• demonstrates a sound knowledge of the design process
• demonstrates an understanding of and knowledge of the requirements of a brief
The essential knowledge and skills must be assessed as part of the unit.
