Course Description

This competency unit describes the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to providing nursing care for clients with complex needs

Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

This competency unit should be assessed after achievement of the following:
HLTIN301A Comply with infection control policies and procedures in health work
HLTEN507A Administer and monitor medication in the work environment

Overview of Assessment

Written Examination
Observation & assessment in the workplace with questioning to address appropriate application of knowledge.

Demonstration of practical skills in the nursing lab. with regard to ECG, trache care, phlebotomy, enteral feeding and naso gastric tube insertion.

In order for students to be deemed Competent in skill based units, it is a requirement that student’s attend 80% of all classes in each course of study and successfully complete, to a Competent level (grade CA) a pre-clinical hurdle. Failure to meet these components may result in withdrawal from Clinical Placement.
