Regardless of the mode of delivery, represent a guide to the relative teaching time and student effort required to successfully achieve a particular competency/module. This may include not only scheduled classes or workplace visits but also the amount of effort required to undertake, evaluate and complete all assessment requirements, including any non-classroom activities.

Pre-requisites and Co-requisites

HLTIN301C Comply with infection control policies and procedures
HLTWHS300A Contribute to WHS processes

Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge you will require to construct a trial prothesis suitable for insertion in the mouth; convert it to clinically acceptable materials and finish. The prosthesis you construct will cover a range of different types of "average" patient jaw relationships as well as "abnormal jaw relationships". The prosthesis (denture) constructed will need to be constructed in a way that it is suitable for insertion into a patients mouth.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be able to demonstrate, on a consistent basis, the arrangement of artificial teeth for complete prosthesis (dentures) as well as techniques for converting the wax trial dentures into a final hard acrylic suitable for wear by a patient. You will set teeth in various arrangements in accordance with a prescription and be exposed to different techniques of curing the dentures.
