Performance Criteria:

1.1 Identify sources of information and data
1.2 Obtain information and data to determine the nature and scope of hazards and risks, the range of harms they may cause, and how these harms happen
1.3 Obtain information and data to determine techniques, tools and processes to assess risk associated with identified hazards and risk control options


2. Prepare to manage WHS hazards and risks

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Apply knowledge of the organisation’s WHSMS and WHSIS to identify requirements for managing WHS hazards and risks
2.2 Apply knowledge of WHS legislation to identify duty holders and legislative requirements for managing WHS hazards and risks


3. Develop and implement WHS hazard and risk-management processes

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Apply techniques, tools and processes to assess risks associated with hazards and risk control options
3.2 Apply knowledge of hazards and risks to develop appropriate risk controls
3.3 Develop and implement a risk control plan and evaluate risk controls

Learning Outcomes

Details of Learning Activities

The delivery of the program involes, presentations, case studies and group discussions based on real life(work) situations. Simulated scenarios will also be used to ensure learners are work ready and familiar with the real work situations.
Learners will work individually and in groups.   The activities are expected to be completed in a simulated or real work context. To inculcate teamwork and peer group learning, contributing in the discussion forum comprises part of assessment.
The teacher learner interaction and peer group work provide a source of feedback to learners to reflect on their underpinning knowledge. Learners will work individually and in groups and are required to read the course notes and any information provided on ’myRMIT’.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment includes a combination of written assignments - reports and plans based on industry requirements, knowledge tests/quiz.
• The following range of assessment tools may be used:
1. Participation in Discussion Forum
2. Report Writing on case studies
3. Participation/Completion of Online Quiz
Participation in the discussion forum is also used as a tool for formative assessment for all competencies.

Assessment Information

• To pass the course you need to pass, on average, each type of assessment (exam, prac reports, and assignments etc.). For example, if there are two tests you need to have an average of 50% to pass. But you also need to have passed the other assessments as well. You can’t make up marks from one type of assessment to another (e.g. pass the tests but fail the prac reports).

• Extension of time for submission of assessable work- A student may apply for an extension of up to 7 days from the original due date. They must lodge the application form (available on the web ) at least the day before the due date. The application is lodged with the School Admin Office on Level 6, Bdg 51. Students requiring longer extensions must apply for Special Consideration (form available on the Web). For missed assessments such as exams- you (& your doctor if you are sick) must fill out a special consideration form. This form must be lodged at the HUB or online with supporting evidence (eg medical certificate), prior to, or within, 48 hours of the scheduled time of examination.

• Late work that is submitted without an application for an extension will not be corrected

• If you miss an assessment task due to unavoidable circumstances, you need to follow the procedure of special consideration and apply within the allowed time frame.
