Course Description

In this course you will develop the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to evaluate a training program in order to measure the effectiveness of training in meeting workforce performance needs and capability requirements.

1.3 Establish a project plan and timelines which identify tasks and stakeholders in the evaluation process
1.4 Select and brief staff to be involved
1.5 Establish constructive relationships with the stakeholders identified in the evaluation plan

2.1 Identify the most appropriate technique(s) for gathering quantitative and qualitative data and information

2.4 Collect data and information and store in compliance with the record keeping and privacy policies and procedures of the organisation
2.5 Identify and record potentially useful information which is not identified in the evaluation plan

3.1 Analyse the data and information to identify the outcomes of training and their impact on workforce capability

3.4 Document areas of training that are satisfactory and those requiring improvement
3.5 Identify factors affecting performance and suggest possible enhancements or alternatives to the training program

Details of Learning Activities

As part of your program you will be directed to undertake a number of activities. It is important that you complete all such activities in a timely manner as they are an important component of your program. Such activities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • watch and engage with online lectures using communication technologies such as Skype, Collaborate, etc
  • engage in group discussion and activities using a variety of online tools such as discussion boards, wikis, blogs, etc.
  • watch and engage with guest lecturers using a variety of communication technologies
  • reflect upon course presentations and materials using blogs and/or wikis
  • give class presentations using communication technologies
  • undertake research both online and other as required
  • analyse and/or critique suggested reading and other material as directed (eg comment on other students’ posts on a discussion board)
  • do class exercises using online quizzes
  • undertake project-based work in an online environment

Assessment Tasks

To demonstrate competency in this course, you need to complete to a satisfactory standard the assessment task outlined below .

Task 1 - you will undertake an evaluation of two training programs within your organisation or within another RTO. You will have to evaluate the programs against workforce performance needs and capability requirements, produce an evaluation report that addresses all phases of the evaluation process including recommendations on areas for improvement and critically review the evaluation process and approaches taken and propose changes to improve the process (refer to pg 99 of Hill, Hill & Perlitz).

Attendance
The major learning experiences involve you being an active participant in the e-learning environment. In addition, you are expected to attend any face-to-face workshops that are organised.
