This unit covers skills and knowledge required to conduct complex, cto conduct complex, creative, routine and non-routine communication in English and another language to meet the language and communication needs of translating and interpreting. It involves very effective and fluent communication skills with the ability to conduct negotiations, present information and participate in social and cultural activities at a high level of complexity and fluency.

1. Conduct negotiations in different languages.
1.1. Establish rapport by using appropriate courtesy protocols, identifying common ground and observing social, cultural and business conventions of the specific language.
1.2. Provide explanations, information and supporting details about specific products or services.
1.3. Use a range of language functions to conduct negotiations, including introducing formal talk, using turn-taking skills, and agreeing and disagreeing tentatively.

Details of Learning Activities
Learning activities for full time delivery may include class exercises, listening comprehension and vocabulary tests, practical demonstrations, research social & cultural contextual information, presentations and journals.
Learning activities for online group are listed on the blackboard shell for the program in a folder titled “Learning Activities”. Each activity requires students to undertake a task and report back. Activities may include quizzes, site visits, discussion board entries, research reports, journals, practical demonstrations on video or phone conferencing or recorded tasks
Spoken Language group
The delivery of this LANG5766C unit will be undertaken with LANG5765C Analyse, recall and reproduce source messages in Language Proficiency cluster class for the aspect of English assessment, and with LANG5763C Interpret in general dialogue settings (LOTE) in interpreting cluster class for the aspect of LOTE assessment. Language proficiency and interpreting cluster class schedule will be provided by the instructor.
AUSLAN group: The delivery of this LANG5766C unit will be undertaken with LANG5765C Analyse, recall and reproduce source messages in their Language Proficiency cluster class. Both English and LOTE assessments for the unit are conducted in the Language Proficiency class.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing during the semester, and you will receive feedback on your progress. You will undertake a variety of assessment tasks and activities to assess your level of competence against key elements and performance criteria.
Assessment tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- group discussions and debates
- real or simulated monolingual interviews and dialogues
- recorded speeches and summaries of speeches

LANG5766C : Demonstrate language proficiency in different subjects and cultural contexts
Assessment task 1: Audio presentation submission. Due in Week 7 You are required to deliver a presentation on a social/cultural topic that you have selected or are instructed, record the presentation and submit the audio to Blackboard or as instructed by the teacher.
Assessment task 2 : Group presentation in class Due by Week 13 or 14. You are required to deliver a group presentation on a social/cultural topic that you have selected or are instructed in class.
Assessment task 3: Summary of complex communication. Due by Week 14 or as instructed. You are required to listen to in-class group presentation and summarise the contents of one presentation. A written summary to be submitted to the teacher through TURNITIN.
Assessment task 4: Co-assessed for LANG5767C assessment Logbook section 3. Due by Week 13 or as instructed: two interview activities. You are required to summarise the two interviews. The written summaries must be submitted as part of Logbook section 3.
Assessment task 5: Co-assessed for LANG5767C assessment Logbook section 3. Due by Week 13 or as instructed: Participate in social and cultural activities. You are required to summarise the two activities that you participated and the written summaries must be submitted as part of Logbook section 3.
AUSLAN group: Instructors will provide modified instructions for Assessment task 1~5.
Students are required to complete all the tasks and achieve satisfactory standards in all to be deemed " competent" ( CA) in this course.

All competency-based assessment tasks for this course must be completed at the required level (see the elements and key performance criteria for each unit) in order to achieve a CA (Competency Achieved) award.If a student has not completed ALL the assessment tasks or they have completed but some or all are not at the required level, they will be assessed as NYC (Not Yet Competent). If a student does not submit assessment tasks at all, a DNS result will be entered.

Applying for an Extension
Extension of time for assessment tasks may be granted where circumstances beyond your control prevent submission by the published due date. An application for extension of time must be lodged with your tutor or the course coordinator as early as possible, and no later than one working day before the due date for submission.

An extension of up to seven calendar days may be granted if good reason can be demonstrated. Include supporting evidence (such as medical certificates) with your application.
Extensions beyond seven calendar days cannot be granted by course coordinators, tutors or the School. To apply for an extension of time greater than seven calendar days you must lodge an application for Special Consideration.
Applying for Special Consideration
If you are seeking an extension of more than seven calendar days (from the original due date) you must lodge an Application for Special Consideration form, preferably prior to, but no later than two working days after the official due date. Penalties for Late Submission
If you have not been granted an extension or special consideration, late submission will be penalised as follows:
1. Assessment tasks submitted after the due date of submission shall receive a penalty of five per cent of the grades available for that assessment per day for each day late.
2. No assessment task shall be accepted more than three weeks after the due date without special consideration.
If you believe your assessment result or final result is wrong please contact the course coordinator and provide the reason why you think your result is incorrect. Valid reasons for seeking a review of results include:
a) You believe an error has occurred in the calculation of the grade; or,
b) You believe the assessment did not comply with criteria published in the Course Guide; or,
c) You believe the assessment did not comply with University Policies on Assessment (i.e. an error in process has occurred).
