Course Description
In this course you will gain the skills and knowledge required to refine techniques for printmaking work and to develop an individual style in a body of creative work. This occurs through a process of research, refinement and evaluation.

A set of linoleum tools Speedball is a great brand or a 6 or 12 wooden handle linoleum cutting tool set. It is not recommended you purchase a cheaper brand.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is on-going throughout the course.
Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include:
- Participation and practical demonstration of class based activities
- Practical demonstration to be able to select and apply appropriate techniques and media to complete a body of work
- The ability to demonstrate conceptual development, understanding of materials and adhering to the guidelines of working in a studio.
- Direct observation including exploration of and experimentation with techniques
- Completion of an art journal and portfolio including personal reflection, research and feedback
- Direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence.
Assessment is based on your ability to undertake the following:
- Evolve and refine printmaking technique through a demonstrated process of experimentation
- Develop individual style in own work
- Produce a coherent body of professional artwork that includes the use of well-developed printmaking technique
- Research printmaking technique in the broader context of other artwork and artists
- Use safe and sustainable work practices.
Assessment will be via folio submission at the end of the semester.
Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessment.
Project 1 – Visual text – Reduction linocut
Outcome:
• A minimum of 3 preparatory drawings
• Completion of one resolved image editioned at a minimum of 5 prints, using four colours
• Journal with conceptual, visual & technical research.

Project 2 - Monoprinting / stencils / texture
Outcome:
• A minimum of 3 preparatory drawings and/ or collages
• Completion of a series of 5 resolved unique state prints – they can be related in theme or size or be
very different from each other. Minimum of 10 experimental works that back up the resolved prints and demonstrates an engagement with all processes introduced in class.
• Journal with conceptual, visual & technical research.

• A minimum of 3 preparatory drawings
• Completion of one resolved image editioned at a minimum of 5 prints.
