Course Description

In this course you will cover the skills and knowledge required to work with any type of photomedia professional creative practice. It applies to individuals who work in many media and disciplines and use photomedia for the creative presentation or documentation of work, or to create parts or the whole of a finished work. It may include still images, film, video, music or interactive content. This unit does not address the specialised skills needed by photo imaging professionals.

Other required resources include, but are not limited to: an A4 or A3 visual diary, drawing materials (pencils of various grades (1B & 2B), erasers, coloured pencils and pens, graphic markers such as Copic brand) broadband internet access, suitable digital media storage such as a portable hard drive or USB flash drive, with at least 32Gb capacity.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge of course content is assessed through participation in practical exercises, knowledge assessment tasks and may include practical team based projects.


Assessment Tasks

This course is assessed in accordance with competency-based assessment.To demonstrate competency you must complete the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task. Once you have demonstrated competency, you will receive a grade for semester two A03, and for the course. Please refer to the assessment brief for full assessment criteria or assessment rubric. All assessment documents are available on the course Blackboard page through MyRMIT.
 

Semester one - ungraded:

A01 - Julianne Kost composite exercise
In addition to completion of class exercises, recreate a composited artwork by renowned artist Julianne Kost, adding your own distinctive touch.

A02 - "Gigantic" Poster Design
In addition to completion of class exercises, design, style and capture images as part of a team. As individuals build and finish posters illustrating a "gigantic" fluffy toy.
Due week 9

A03 - Exposure Skate event poster - In addition to completion of class exercises, design and build an A3 poster to advertise “Exposure Skate” event, using action photography with a graphic treatment.
Due week 13

Semester two - ungraded:

A01 - RAW Process and Colour Correction - In addition to completion of class exercises, demonstrate your understanding of intermediate image correction skills, by colour correcting a series of digital stills.
Due week 4

A02 - Independent Photography Festival event poster - In addition to completion of class exercises, design and build an A3 poster to advertise the “New York Photo Festival 2016”, using photographic elements with a graphic treatment.
