Course Description

In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge required to follow organisational policies and procedures for safe work practice. 

On completion of the unit you will have an understanding of the requirements for all employees under state and territory Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, to participate in the management of their own health and safety, that of their colleagues and anyone else in the workplace.

1.1.Follow workplace procedures for safe work practice.

1.4.Work safely around dangerous goods and substances.

1.5.Identify and remove safety hazards, and report all workplace hazards as they arise.

1.6.Promptly report unsafe work practices, incidents and accidents.

Details of Learning Activities

These units will be delivered in class at the city campus. Delivery will include the following.

Discussion, practical demonstrations regarding the safe use, handling and storage of materials, tools & equipment.

Discussion, practical demonstration regarding the appropriate choice of materials, tools & equipment.

Discussion, analysis of workplace safety issues

Design, fabrication or construction of props, Visual Merchandising signage to meetclient needs.

Peer learning

Independent project based work

You will use a range of tools, equipment & materials. techniques, equipment and materials to produce industry standard props, signage and display material for various promotional, branding or client needs.

Demonstrate creating stencils and cutting simple styrene shapes  EG Letters, Numbers

Demonstrate cutting screenboard . EG Cut card board strips for posters.

Discuss and Intro first assessment "Sign and Icon". Show samples

Student Homework : Find an inexpensive product  (eg drink or confectionary or other) with interesting graphics that can be converted to 3D signage. Bring one full colour photocopy (or original packaging/wrapper) to class as well as three black and white photocopies scaled up to fill an A3 page. This will be the size of the final signage.

Demonstrate appropriate use of colour copy images & paint finishes in accordance with the specified theme. (Graded assessment 33.3%)

You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time.

The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome.

 Special Consideration Policy, Late Submission & Extensions

All assessment tasks are required to be completed to a satisfactory level.

If you are unable to complete any piece of assessment by the due date, you will need to apply for an extension. Pick the following link for details on applying for Special consideration

Reasonable adjustment is available and may be applied through the Special Consideration process. Any student seeking an extension, should aim at doing so a minimum of 2 days before the deadline. Work submitted late and without an extension at any point will incur late penalties in accordance with university policy. On Time Submission and Impact of Late Submission

On time submission is an important factor in your assessment. Employability skills are embedded in all courses and these include Planning & Organising and Self-management. For this reason, late work impacts on your overall grade for each assessment task.

The following adjustments for late submission will be made: Work submitted late will be assessed for competency only. Submissions are only permitted during the period that the competency is scheduled.

Credit Transfers and Recognition of Prior Learning
Credit transfer is the recognition of previously completed formal learning (an officially accredited qualification).  Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that allows you to demonstrate competence using the skills you have gained through experience in the workplace, voluntary work, informal or formal training or other life experiences.
Recognition of Current Competency (RCC).
RCC applies only if you have previously demonstrated competence in a unit of competency, and now require to be reassessed to ensure that the competence is being maintained.
