Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to construct complete and partial immediate replacement dentures and surgical templates.

 

This unit applies to work in dental technology.

1. Arrange artificial teeth for try-in

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Select artificial teeth in accordance with work order 1.2 Arrange artificial teeth in current edentulous area in accordance with work order

2. Arrange artificial teeth and construct surgical template for finish

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Remove model teeth individually and prepare the ridge in accordance with work order 2.2 Arrange artificial teeth in sequence as each model tooth is removed 2.3 Adjust existing artificial teeth if necessary when commencing removal of model teeth 2.4 Contour wax surfaces 2.5 Invest/key and boil out 2.6 Finalise the ridge shape 2.7 Duplicate and pour model 2.8 Construct surgical template

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Trim and polish immediate dentures 3.2 Process surgical template 3.3 Trim and polish surgical template 3.4 Decontaminate the denture and surgical template according to infection control guidelines 3.5 Place denture and surgical template in a suitable container that will keep moist in accordance with infection control guidelines
