Course Description

To provide the learner with elementary mathematical skills to meet the aeronautical knowledge objectives of the March 1996 Day VFR syllabus and to provide an understanding of basic aircraft terminology, powerplants and systems, carburettor ice and flight instruments.

1. Solve basic arithmetic, conversion and trigonometry problems.

2. Recall definitions of selected terminology and make basic conversion calculations.

3. State the basic operation of an aircraft piston engine and its ancillary components.

4. State the characteristics of fuels and oils and the precautions required when handling.

5. Recall the procedures for engine handling.

6. State the procedures for handling selected aircraft malfunctions.

7. State the operation and purpose of the carburettor heat control.
