To enable students to design rotating machines using catalogues and standard machine designs.

Learning Outcomes

1: Identify different materials used in machine drive shafts.

2: Apply standard formulas and specifications to determine machine drive shaft sizes for various
power, deflection, torque and bending data.

3: Apply standard formulas and standard (tabulated) component data to determine machine drive shaft sizes, key sizes, spline sizes and pin sizes.

4: Select standard shaft drive machine components from manufacturers catalogues.

5: Select power prime movers from manufacturers catalogues.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this module will consist of the following:
1. 1 x written open book examination at the completion of the course
2. 3 x written assignments/projects provided throughout the program.
