Course Description

This course contains some of the underpinning knowledge of a program, which designed for a person to be able to undertake design, select, install, commission, maintain and carry out repairs on advanced electronic equipment and systems.
The Knowledge and skills addressed in this course include DSP Concepts of sampling, aliasing, reconstruction and quantisation; time domain processing- correlation, convolution and modulation; spectral analysis; filtering; and carrying out a Work Performance Project.

• Systems and apparatus faults are checked against job requirements
• Materials necessary to complete the work are obtained in accordance with established procedures and checked against job requirements
• Tools, equipment and testing devices needed to carry out the work are obtained in accordance with established procedures and checked for correct operation and safety
• Preparatory work is checked to ensure no unnecessary damage has occurred and complies with requirements

• Systems and associated apparatus are isolated, where necessary, in accordance with established procedures
• Adjustments are made in accordance with established procedures where necessary, to return systems and associated apparatus to normal operating parameters
• Faulty component(s) are rectified orreplaced, without damage or distortion to the surrounding environment or services
• Unplanned events or conditions are responded to in accordance with established procedures
• Approval is obtained in accordance with established procedures from appropriate personnel before any contingencies are implemented
• On-going checks of the quality of work are undertaken in accordance with established procedures
• Systems and associated apparatus are tested to ensure safety of the installation

Learning Outcomes



Details of Learning Activities

Students will learn about digital signal processing and develop skills in applying those DSP techniques using software tools to produce real life applications. They will be exposed to software simulations and appropriate hardware platform for implementation.

Overview of Assessment

This is a progressive assessment, the underpinning knowledge will be assessed on the completion of each course, but the competency itself will not be signed off until related competency is completed and the student is deemed competent
The students are required to undertake summative assessments as follows:
• Progressive Written assessments
• Assignments
• Work Simulation Projects


Assessment Tasks

Evidence of competent performance shall be gathered from
Work performance simulations
Laboratory activities related to circuit & programming construction, testing, diagnosis and
Fault rectification.
Assessment activities shall be as close as practicable to real work situations and include real work decisions by the learner.

Each assessment task specifically relates to demonstration of knowledge, skills and/or attitudes relevant to an element of competence. To achieve a Grade of ‘Competent’, you must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required in each assessment task of the course to the level required by industry.
In general, the assessment of your level of competence is made through continuing evaluation of your level of work and your progression in the development of skills. The style of assessments will provide you with:
o Opportunities to demonstrate application of the necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills not just recall information.
o Information on your progress through the course with emphasis on encouraging you to monitor your own progress and plan your program of study.
o An open system where standards are specified and the required level of competence is known beforehand.
