This unit defines the competency required to identify, select and correctly operate three desktop applications for a range of purposes. (Word processor, spreadsheet and a database.)

Details of Learning Activities
You will be working in a computer laboratory developing/reinforcing your Word, Excel and Access skills, so that you have all the Office computer skills needed to successfully complete your program and prepare for your professional career.
The total number of scheduled hours of teaching, learning and assessment involved in this course includes all planned activities (face to face workshops, and external visits). It also covers the amount of effort necessary to undertake, evaluate and complete all assessment requirements, observation of work performance, discussions, one on one and group assessment sessions with students.

Overview of Assessment
Evidence of the following is essential:
• Assessment must confirm the ability to produce several workplace documents utilising a minimum of three different computing packages. Learner will demonstrate the use of a wide range of features from each package.
Assessment Task No. (ATN)
ATN 1 – Keyboard & equipment: Multi choice assessment–5%
ATN 2 – Word workplace simulated test (open book) 30%
ATN 3 – Help test (Word, Excel & Access): 5%
#ATN 4 – Excel workplace simulated test (open book) 30%
#ATN 5 – Access workplace simulated test (open book) 30%
# NB: Parts of Excel and Access will be co-delivered and co-assessed with the Computer Applications (1999) unit. (Refer separate Course Guide).
Feedback will be provided throughout the course.
To be deemed competent students must satisfactorily demonstrate competence in all elements listed above. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks.
Students are advised that they will be asked to demonstrate their competence per class observation, computer laboratory tasks and tests which will be used to assess their competence.
All assessments for this course must be successfully completed to achieve a Competency grade.
Only if unit competency has been satisfactorily achieved will students will be given a competent with grade result, which is the total of the % assessments listed above.
