Course Description

This course is designed to assist learner to gain knowledge in electrical fundamental principle, develop the skills in construction and measurement of electrical circuit and perform various tests.

Document Test results

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Cable route and specifications together with all associated documentation is obtained
1.2 Purpose of the test and the performance to be measured is identified
1.3 Need for outage, extent, location and timing is determined and negotiated with network management centre


Interpret test results and determine action

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Equipment selected is suitable for the tests to be performed to ensure relevance of test data
2.2 Test equipment is set up in accordance with manufacturers specifications
2.3 Test reading error is set against a known reference where appropriate
2.4 Equipment calibration certification is current to reduce possibility of unreliable test data and ensure traceability where appropriate


Obtain and set up test equipment

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Optical fibre connectors are cleaned prior to testing
3.2 Tests are conducted as required by both equipment and enterprise specification
3.3 Cable length, splice location and irregularity details are determined and recorded
3.4 Measurements are undertaken to determine loss associated with links, insertions, returns and splicing


Perform tests

Performance Criteria:

4.1 Test results are read accurately and compared against manufacturers and site specifications for cable performance
4.2 All test requirements and parameters are considered when evaluating test results
4.3 Test results are assessed fairly and accurately and are based on verifiable data
4.4 Problems are identified, location determined and arrangements are instituted for repair or modification
4.5 Retest faulty fibre after the faults have been rectified


Prepare for test

Performance Criteria:

5.1 Results of tests are documented accurately in accordance with enterprise guidelines and without delay to ensure test results remain current
5.2 Site and installation files are updated to ensure traceability of information on system performance is maintained
5.3 Test result details are recorded and archived for the life of the cable

Overview of Assessment

This is a progressive assessment, the underpinning knowledge will be assessed on the completion of each course, but the competency itself will not be signed off until this and the further course EEET6573C related to same competency are completed and the student is deemed competent.
The students are required to undertake summative assessments that bring together skills and knowledge as follows:
