Learning Outcomes
Details of Learning Activities
Practical drawing exercises and project work which include the followings:
1. Architectural drawings : -
• Use standard drawing scales to determine the actual lengths represented by dimensions on an architectural drawing
• Read and interpret a floor plan to determine the location of the electrical/electronics/communication accessories and appliances
• Use Australian standard symbols on a floor plan to show the location of the accessories and appliances as detailed in an electrical schedule.
2. Electrical drawings:
• Identify and distinguish between block, circuit diagram
• Identify standard symbols used in representing components on electrical/electronic circuit diagrams.
• Identify cable type, origin and route from a cable schedule
3. Circuit diagrams :
• List the conventions used in and the features of circuit diagrams
• Sketch basic circuit diagrams
• Identify a range of symbols from Australian Drawing Standard
• AS/NZS 1102
• Connect equipment according to a circuit diagram and confirm the operation of the circuit.
4. Mechanical drawing:
• Describe the conventions used in drawings of mechanical components.
• List the basic abbreviations and symbols used in drawing of mechanical components.
• Identify mechanical components and their specifications from information in a drawing of the component
5. Freehand sketching :
• Layout a drawing of a mechanical component using engineering drawing convention.
• Draw freehand a mechanical component showing all information needed for its manufacturer/fabrication.
