Course Description
This unit deals the replacement of electronic components, cabling and sub systems of electronic apparatus. It encompasses safe working practices, following written and oral instruction and procedures, basic testing and techniques, dismantling and assembling apparatus and disconnecting and reconnecting components.

Details of Learning Activities
Classroom tutorial activities are as follows:
• Identifying various electronic components, for example resistors, inductors, capacitors, diodes, transistor, integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, sub-assemblies, and mounting/enclosing, connection and termination hardware.
• Selecting appropriate components and connection devices in accordance to their specification and handling static sensitive components.
• Practical exercise in electronic soldering techniques, for example, lead free soldering
• Practical work/ project in replacing electronic components or repair associated cabling correctly and making reliable terminations and connections in accordance with industry standards.
• Evaluating reliability of termination and connection work.
• Documenting activities accurately

This is a progressive assessment, the students are required to undertake summative assessments as follows:

Assessment Tasks
This is a progressive assessment consisting of the following:

35% is allocated to practical exercises (labs)
30% is allocated to written test (theory)
35% is allocated to project (presentation, report and technical understanding of the circuit). Details will be given to the students prior to the project.

The minimum number of student directed hours for this course are 8 hours in addition to the 32 scheduled teaching hours.
