Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to lead teams in the workplace and to actively engage with the management of the organisation.

It applies to individuals working at a managerial level who facilitate work teams and build a positive culture within their work teams. At this level, work will normally be carried out using complex and diverse methods and procedures requiring the exercise of considerable discretion and judgement, using a range of problem solving and decision making strategies.

Overview of Assessment

This course is delivered and assessed in a cluster with Lead the work team (CHCMGT003).

The assessment tasks are as follows:

Assessment 1:  short answer knowledge questions 

Assessment 2:case study (There are three parts to this assessment task)

Part A:  Mission statement and development of key performance indicators

Part B:  Develop action plan using leadership and team roles to encourage consensus in developing the policies, processes and procedures to achieve organisational goals.

Part C:  Develop a dispute management process or strategy to address any issues relating to work performance in completing the action plan determined above.

 Assessment task 3:  short answer knowledge questions 

Assessment task 4: case study (There are four parts to this assessment task)

Part A:   Establish staffing and resourcing for work performance plans

Part B:   Develop a process for recruitment, induction, training and ongoing performance evaluation of staff 

Part C:   Provide recordings, scripts or minutes of the following three events:

  • a team meeting facilitation,
  • conflict resolution meeting and
  • a coaching session with a staff member.
