Course Description

In this course you will cover skills and knowledge required to plan and manage pre-production and production operations in specialist areas, such as lighting, audio, vision systems, stage management, costume, sets, props, scenic art and staging. These skills will apply to both interactive, mobile, animated and games media in addition to live action film making.

This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for C6151 Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media and C6151IM Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Interactive Media). In this course, feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

1.1 With reference to production documentation, confirm key objectives and scope of productions with relevant personnel

1.2 Determine cost of, and sources for, required resources according to organisational procedures

1.3 Develop realistic expenditure estimates that conform to budget allocations

1.4 Identify potential budget overruns and resolve or recommend alternatives to relevant personnel

2.5 Monitor progress of agreed plans against timelines and production requirements

2.6 Identify and respond to problems promptly in consultation with relevant colleagues as required

2.7 Treat colleagues with consideration and respect to develop and maintain effective work relationships

2.8 Attend run-throughs and production meetings to identify changes that need to be made to plans and update and distribute workplace documentation accordingly

2.9 Maintain communication with production departments to ensure a coordinated approach to realising productions

Learning Outcomes


On successful completion of this competency, you will have developed and applied skills and knowledge required to plan and manage pre-production and production operations in specialist areas, such as lighting, audio, vision systems on a range of productions. These skills are applicable to both interactive, mobile, animated and games media in addition to live action film making.

Semester 2

NB Realise productions is a year long course. The teaching schedule for semester 2 will become available at the start of semester 2.  In that semester it will be co-delivered with Develop a Marketing Plan (MKTG7996C) and Plan Social Media Engagement (MKTG 7995C)

Students are encouraged to make full use of class time, open studio time and University computer lab resources. Please consult the RMIT University web site for details of access times and locations.

Other required resources include, but are not limited to: an A4 or A3 visual diary, drawing materials (pencils of various grades (1B & 2B), erasers, coloured pencils and pens, graphic markers such as Copic brand) broadband internet access, suitable digital media storage such as a portable hard drive or USB flash drive, with at least 32Gb capacity.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge of course content is assessed through participation in a range of team based screen content productions.


Assessment Tasks

This course is assessed in accordance with competency-based assessment.To demonstrate competency you must complete the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task. Once you have demonstrated competency, you will receive a grade for Assessment Task(s) x and x and for the course. Please refer to the assessment brief for full assessment criteria or assessment rubric. All assessment documents are available on the course Blackboard page through MyRMIT.

Assessment items for this unit focus on the involvement of three projects through the year:

  • Design Project 3
  • Design Project 4
  • Project Review (of your own choice)

NB You will need to satisfactorily complete ALL required assessments and associated reviews to be deemed competent in this course. If you have not completed the requirements of the reviews, you will NOT be eligible for final assessment for this course
