BP162 - Bachelor of Information Technology

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

You must complete a total of 288 credit points as follows:  
 
– Eleven (11) core courses    
– Four (4) Information Technology Options 
– Two (2) University Electives  
– Four (4) Minor courses from one of the minor study streams 
– Two (2) Advanced Information Technology Options 
– One (1) Capstone course 

ENROLMENT LOAD   
 
Full-time study load is 48 credit points or Four (4) courses equivalent each semester.   
Part-time study load is 24 credit points, or Two (2) course equivalent each semester.   
 
COURSE REQUISITES   
 
You are required to successfully complete relevant prerequisites in the program in order to progress to the next stage of your studies. Please ensure that you have met the necessary prerequisites by checking course guides.   
 
PROGRAM TRANSITION   
 
Your program may be subject to program transition. Please ensure you carefully read the program transition plan as outlined in the program handbook to understand how this may impact your progression.   

PROGRAM DISCONTINUATION  

The BP162OPN9 Bachelor of Information Technology program plan will be taught out to current students until Semester 2, 2026. If you are unable to complete your program by the end of 2026, you may consider applying to other programs within RMIT subject to entrance requirements. You may also consider applying to the new plan: BP162P23 Bachelor of Information Technology.

Year One of Program

Academic integrity

As not all courses run every semester, the following is the recommended sequence of courses for full-time students (without any advanced standing) commencing in the first semester.

• ISYS1108 Software Engineering Project Management

Semester 2

• Capstone project COSC2408 Programming Project 1

Minor Study Streams: Minor study streams are made up of Four (4) courses each. You must do Two (2) Minor Courses in your second year, and Two (2) further Courses from the same minor stream in the third year.

• IT Option courses (Use this option if you wish to expand your IT Major Stream)

*CISCO minor courses are delivered by the School of Vocational Engineering, Health and Sciences and have earlier start dates. 

NOTE:

- Minor streams are offered via other RMIT Schools - the School of Science has no control over which of these minor courses may run in any given semester delivered via other RMIT Schools.

- If you are not able to complete all four minor courses due to limited availability, you may enrol in additional IT Option courses.
