2019 Enrolment Program Structure

To graduate you must complete the following:

AND  Year Two of Program
 

One hundred and ninety two (192) credit points from the program structure, which is listed below, under Year 1 and Year 2.  These credit points must include:

  • Two advanced 24 credit point courses during the program.  The 2 courses must be in different disciplines.
  • MEDS2154 Advanced Laboratory Medicine
  • MATH1300 Biostatistics
  • MEDS2138 Research Project, or MEDS2156 Professional Practice (final semester of the program).

Note: Courses listed may not be available each semester.  Also the advanced microbiology courses may be offered in alternate years.  You will be required to purchase your own Personal Protective Equipment (including Laboratory Coats), as required for specific laboratory classes.

Year Two of Program

Semester 1 - You must complete:

  • one advanced 24 credit point course and two 12 credit point courses (students who started the program in March previous year), OR
  • two advanced 24 credit point courses (students who started the program in July previous year)
  • Please check the course guides for pre-requisites and assumed knowledge.

Semester 2 - You must complete:

  • MEDS2138 Research Project or MEDS2156 Professional Practice (students who started the program in March previous year).  Students with no prior experience in diagnostic pathology are recommended to take MEDS2156 "Professional Practice - Laboratory Medicine". RMIT University will make reasonable efforts to find suitable professional practice clinical placements for eligible students who meet GPA requirements. Please consult the Program Coordinator for further advice if required.
  • MEDS2154 "Advanced Laboratory Medicine" in Semester 2 and two 12 credit point courses (students who started the program in July previous year).
  • Please check the course guides for pre-requisites and assumed knowledge.

To complete the core clinical components of the program students must hold a Working with Children Check and a National Police Check, as well as meet a number of Immunisation and Compliance requirements.  Students must take action to satisfy these requirements immediately following enrolment.  Please note that a full course of Immunisations can take up to 7 months to complete.
