2024 Enrolment Program Structure

The Master of International Business degree requires the completion of 192 credit points (CP) comprising of the following:

  • 8 International Business related compulsory courses (96 CP)
  • 1 Capstone course (12 CP)
  • 1 Research Design course (12 CP)
  • 3 Business and Law Elective Option courses (36 CP)
  • 3 University Postgraduate Elective courses (36 CP) as per the University elective options list.

Please note: All courses listed may not be available each Semester, this is important to note when planning your enrolments. You must ensure that you satisfy the academic requirements of your program in order to graduate. 

Masters Advanced Standing 

Your eligibility for masters advanced standing was assessed as part of the admissions process in line with the RMIT Credit Policy. Masters advanced standing will have been included in your offer letter if you were assessed as eligible and will show in your offer letter as course exemptions with MX grades.  

If you have received masters advanced standing as part of the admissions process, you are required to complete twelve (12) courses (144 credit points) in order to qualify for the degree. Please refer to this program map for details.

If you have not received masters advance standing as part of the admissions process, you are required to complete sixteen (16) courses (192 credit points) in order to qualify for the degree. Please refer to this program map for details.

Capstone Courses

Capstone Courses are compulsory courses designed to consolidate the learning undertaken throughout the program and should be taken in your final semester of study. Please note: Applications for credit transfer or recognition of prior learning will not be accepted for Capstone courses.

Semester 1 2024 Program Changes

 

The following four (4) courses have been removed from the program structure: 

  • BUSM3243 Business and Economic Analysis
  • ACCT2229 Accounting for Sustainable Management
  • BUSM3229 Leadership Issues in International Management (WIL)
  • BUSM1530 Leadership and Management 

The above four (4) courses will be replaced with: 

  • BUSM2665 Global Business Environment  
  • BUSM2667 Managing Cross-border e-Commerce in the Digital Era (WIL) 
  • BUSM2666 Global Entrepreneurship 
  • BUSM2668 Managing Multinational Enterprises

 

Transition Rules:

If you have not completed BUSM3243 Business and Economic Analysis, you must complete BUSM2665 Global Business Environment  

If you have not completed ACCT2229 Accounting for Sustainable Management, you must complete BUSM2666 Global Entrepreneurship 

If you have not completed BUSM3229 Leadership Issues in International Management, you must complete BUSM2667 Managing Cross-border e-Commerce in the Digital Era

If you have not completed BUSM1530 Leadership and Management, you must complete BUSM2668 Managing Multinational Enterprises

Any courses completed outside of the above arrangements will be considered part of the Business and Law options.

 

2022 Program changes - Effective Semester 2 

The following four (4) Business Enabling courses have been removed from Stage A of the program structure:

  • BUSM1162 Management 1 - Managing People
  • BUSM3886 Business and Government in the Global Context 
  • ISYS1028 Global Business and Social Technology: A Case Study Approach 
  • ACCT2127Accounting for Management Decisions 

The Business Enabling courses are replaced by:

  • Course BUSM1530 Leadership and Management and
  • Three (3) Business and Law courses 

 

Students who received exemptions for the Business Enabling courses, prior to Semester 2 2022 please note the following transition rules: 

The courses will be recognised as part of your program, and you will not be required to complete the four (4) courses (48 credit points) below:

  • Course BUSM1530 Leadership and Management and
  • Three (3) Business and Law courses 

 

Students who have completed all the Business Enabling courses, do not need to complete the new core course, BUSM1530 Leadership and Management.

Students who have completed up to three Business Enabling courses will need to complete additional courses as detailed below:

  • Students who have completed one Business Enabling course, must complete BUSM1530 Leadership and Management, and an additional two courses (24 credit points) from the available Business and Law discipline courses.
  • Students who have completed two Business Enabling courses, must complete BUSM1530 Leadership and Management, and one course (12 credit points) from available Business and Law discipline courses.
  • Students who completed three Business Enabling courses, must complete course BUSM1530 Leadership and Management.

Capstone course BUSM4388 - Sustainable International Business Futures was re-sequenced from Stage B to the final stage of the program. 

Students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of International Business pre 2021 and articulated into the MC192 - Master of International Business please note the following transition rules which apply:

  • If you completed BUSM4388 Sustainable International Business Futures prior to Semester 1 2021, this will be counted as the capstone in the Master program
  • You will need to complete BUSM3243 Business and Economic Analysis in the next available offering.

BUSM3229 Contemporary Issues in International Management will be renamed BUSM3229 Leadership Issues in International Management effective Semester 1 2023.

Overloading

You will only be permitted to overload by a maximum of 12 credit points in the final semester of your program, upon approval from the College.
