2024 Enrolment Program Structure

To graduate you must complete the following. All courses listed may not be available each semester.

The Master of Marketing degree requires the completion of 192 credit points (CP) comprising of the following:

  • Semester 1: 4 Marketing compulsory courses (48 CP)
  • Semester 2: 4 Marketing Elective courses (48 CP)
  • Semester 3: 4 Marketing Elective courses (48 CP)
  • Semester 4: 1 Captstone course (12 CP) plus 1 Marketing Elective course (12 CP) plus 2 Postgraduate Elective courses (24 CP) or 2 additional Marketing Elective courses (24 CP)

Please note: All courses listed may not be available each Semester, this is important to note when planning your enrolments. You must ensure that you satisfy the academic requirements of your program in order to graduate. 

Masters Advanced Standing

Your eligibility for masters advanced standing was assessed as part of the admissions process in line with the RMIT Credit Policy. Masters advanced standing will have been included in your offer letter if you were assessed as eligible and will show in your offer letter as course exemptions with MX grades.

If you have received masters advanced standing as part of the admissions process, you are required to complete twelve (12) courses (144 credit points) in order to qualify for the degree. Please refer to this program map for details.

If you have not received masters advance standing as part of the admissions process, you are required to complete sixteen (16) courses (192 credit points) in order to qualify for the degree. Please refer to this program map for details.

Capstone Courses

Capstone Courses are compulsory courses designed to consolidate the learning undertaken throughout the program and should be taken in your final semester of study. Applications for credit transfer or recognition of prior learning will not be accepted for Capstone courses.

The course MKTG1215 Strategic Marketing has enforced requisites which are listed below.  The following four courses must be completed prior to enrolling into MKTG1215 Strategic Marketing:

  • MKTG1100 - Marketing Management
  • MKTG1101 - Consumer Behaviour
  • MKTG1103 - Marketing Communication Strategy
  • MKTG1104 - Marketing Research

Year One of Program

2022 Program changes - Effective Semester 2 

The four (4) Business Enabling courses listed below that form  Year 1 of your current program structure will be removed from the program from Semester 2, 2022.  

  • BUSM1162 Management 1 - Managing People 
  • BUSM3886 Business and Government in the Global Context 
  • ISYS1028 Global Business and Social Technology: A Case Study Approach 
  • ACCT2127 Accounting for Management Decisions 

The Business Enabling courses will be replaced with four (4) additional marketing courses from the current options list. Refer to the bottom of the program structure below for the options course list.

 

Students who received exemptions for the four (4) Business Enabling courses, prior to Semester 2 2022: 

  • The courses will be recognised as part of your program, and no further action is required. You may continue your program enrolment as planned. 

 

Students who have successfully completed or received exemptions for up to three of the four (4) Business Enabling courses, prior to Semester 2 2022, will need to complete additional courses as detailed below:

  • Students who have completed one Business Enabling course, must complete an additional three courses (36 credit points) from the new course Options list.
  • Students who have completed two Business Enabling courses, must complete an additional two courses (24 credit points) from the new course Options list.
  • Students who have completed three Business Enabling courses, must complete one additional course (12 credit points) from the new course Options list.

Please also note the following changes: 

  • If you have completed MKTG1341 The Strategic Value of Design, this will be counted as an options list elective (12 credit points). This course will no longer be offered as an options list elective from semester 2 2022. 
  • MKTG1127 Social Marketing has been renamed MKTG1127 Sustainable Marketing, effective Semester 1 2023.

Year Two of Program

GD094 Graduate Diploma in Marketing transition arrangements:

Graduate Diploma students will need to complete an additional course from the option course list in lieu of MKTG1215 Strategic Marketing.

Semester 1 2020 Program changes

All current students will be transitioned to the new program structure, and all course credits that have already been obtained will be recognised in the new structure.

The amendment to the program involves the following changes:

1. The course BUSM4448 Business Research Design will no longer be a core course in the program structure. 

a. If you have COMPLETED BUSM4448 Business Research Design before semester 1 2020, you will need to complete a minimum of four courses from the marketing Option courses.
b. If you have NOT COMPLETED BUSM4448 Business Research Design before semester 1 2020, you will need to complete a minimum of five courses from the marketing Option courses. 

2. The capstone course MKTG1215 Strategic Marketing will move from Stage B to Stage C (the last stage) of the program structure

3. The introduction of two optional/elective Marketing courses: MKTG1474 Marketing Analytics and MKTG1472 Advanced Digital Marketing

Enrolment Load

The maximum standard enrolment load per semester is 48 credit points. 

 

Overloading

You will only be permitted to overload by a maximum of 12 credit points in the final semester of your program, upon approval from the College.
